George A. Wheeldon has been teaching in area colleges since 1967, following five years as a science teacher and coach at El Dorado High School in Placerville, CA.

While teaching, George also worked for seven years with the U.S. Forest Service as the geologist on El Dorado National Forest. And he opened his own business as a consulting geologist in 1970.

The range of his college offerings reflects his interests as well as his extensive educational and professional background. From courses in chemistry, physical science, and biology to an impressive range of geology classes — physical geology, historical geology, mineralogy, paleontology, California geology, geologic field studies, and earthquakes — George has passed on the benefits of his knowledge and experience to countless numbers of students. He also has developed an outstanding curriculum centered on prospecting and the mining history of California’s Mother Lode region.

“ Stepping into a classroom is pure joy for me,” George says. “ It is at once rewarding and humbling. After more than forty years as a teacher, I have found there are no dumb questions, and students still pose questions that stump me. Teaching keeps me young and alive. Who could ask for more than that?”
